unit 2??????? (notes)

I wanted to use books as a medium and/or presentation method for this project as a sort of parallel to websites. A collection of links vs a collection of pages.

Artists who use books include ????

Artists who use the internet include David Horvitz, Ian Aleksander Adams,

David Horvitz' work tends to be centered around an intuitive social idea. He asks an audience cultivated through the internet to participate in his works. He relies on this audience. His work in this way is comparable to flash mobbing. I like the idea of being dependant on a group of people, a community. It is an odd type of collaborative art in which the artist plays the part of director.

There are several potential continuations of this work that I find exciting:
1. using archive content as well as screenshots

Experimentation:
1. books - some more textural, playing with type of content (anselm kiefer texture), securing a diary like feel and what that means when trying to create symbiosis between analogue/digital, introduction of digital elements and how they effect personalisation/type of personalisation, e.g. how webcam photos of myself and people I am close to can give a closer/different insight, also the fact that you can't screenshot a face to face conversation - however of course a text conversation lacks some elements of communication e.g. voice, tone, expression, etc, using websites e.g. futureme.org, video art, pixel art

do something very amazing which requires no explanation

Tumblr famous.

What is this?

Being cute on the internet

Identity, personas, tumblr fame, myspace queens, molly soda
I took screenshots of people's Tumblr blogs because I like to look at all the different layouts you can do. I used to take screenshots of my Myspace profile every time I changed it, but I deleted all of them, which is a shame because it would have been a nice historical artefact showing how I had Venus In Furs by The Velvet Underground as the song on my page and a picture of me doing a cool pose on a wooden horse in a playground and a comment from Greg Proops telling me how he did his hair. I remember trying to get on Myspace trains by adding as many scene queens as possible. I remember looking at graphics pages and contest pages for really lengthy amounts of time.

Internet personas are more directly customizable than IRL personality in that you can pick and choose the things people see and you can create an immediate vibe with your layout and icon and fonts and things. Tumblr famous people usually post a lot of pictures of themselves and are very fashionable, but mostly, they have made themselves into brands. They have a strong vibe that appeals to people.

My adventures on the internet.

辻ヶ花; Japanese fashion

I got some Japanese fashion books out of the library. I wanted to visualise connections between personal identity and cultural identity, and how that manifests itself in fashion. Fashion photography uses the creation of a character to support the clothing depicted, or vice versa. Clothes are an expression of a time and a place and a person or a culture or an organisation. Clothing is a tool of identity, and thus arguably a mode of communication itself, like all art or creative works (?).
